Hello Kitty Laptop Skins
Posted on January 18th, 2009 by Mark under custom skinsSo, you want a hello kitty skin? I have good news and bad news.
First, the bad news… I don’t have any. But wait! The good news!
I’m going to teach you how to make your own Hello Kitty Skins!!

First, you need an image you can scan of Hello Kitty. Maybe some stationary or something else?
Found one? Good. Now scan your Hello Kitty image at 300 dpi.
If the final file was not at least 1 MB, the image you scanned might be too small. This applices for larger devices like a laptop, Xbox360, PS3 or other game console. If you are making Hello Kitty Skins for smaller devices like a cell phone, ipod, or similar sized device, your image can be closer to 500 kb.
Your output file (jpg, png, or gif) should be at least 1MB to ensure you have good resolution and a sharp image. Next you might need to open Photoshop and bring your image in there.
You might choose to “clean” solid colors around your Hello Kitty image as the scan might be just ok, or you might choose to trace the Hello Kitty image and drop onto an entirely new background. It’s up to you. If you’re not real familiar with Photoshop, you might find brushes are interesting too.
Here’s one set of “Hello Kitty Brushes“, and there’s lots more out there.

Sounds like you got your skins somewhere else.
Ours are precision cut for a perfect fit every time.

What kind of printer & cutting machine do you use Mark?
I’m assuming you use a special software package that has all of the different gadget shapes, so you don’t have to do the cutting by hand?
This is really cool. I just ordered my first decal.

Hope you understand but I can’t reveal that info as it would increase my competition…

Hey Mark,
What city are you guys located in?
How long do the decals last? Just wondering if the sun will fade them out really quick also. Thanks!

Hi
We’re up in Canada, but ship anywhere you like.
Laptop skins are usually good for 6 months or longer.
They have protective coatings so that they last.
Part of the wear and tear is if you are putting your laptop in a bag or sleeve everyday, or is it mostly sitting on the desk.
For example… cellphones with skins, which slip in and out of people’s pockets, will last from 3 to 6 months. A few variables like how often, stuff in their pockets, are the pockets loose (it really makes a difference) and such.
But a skin on something like an xbox or laptop that stays in the home/office mostly… the skins have been known to last up to a year.
I have a skin on my macbook right now, which I made in Augst 08, and it still looks new. My laptop goes out at least once a week.
I hope all that helps. There is no direct answer with so many variables.
