This app will take your current location and feed it into a database of nation-wide cab companies, allowing you to order a cab pickup instantly with your current locations. Genius!

Androidscan

This will scan the barcodes on any book or CD when you’re at a store and your phone can pull up Amazon reviews and check local library listings to see if the book is in stock.

BreadCrumbz

Even if the iPhone has Google maps, we like this one better. It has picture based routes so you know to turn at easily identified landmarks. Your friends can make routes for you and record them with the camera and GPS.

Life360

This one keeps you informed. This is a personalized alert system that displays only the messages you need to hear.

Biowallet

How about an app that scans your eyeball and saves your passwords? Save anything senstitive like passwords, certificates, documents, pictures, etc.

Sony might not be on top of the cell phone market, but they may have a winner here with the new Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia. At long last, a possible iPhone contender from Sony.

We thought this looks like a winner. Even though this smartphone looks like it’s all business, it has all the things you might look for in a recreational phone. The camera is 3.15 megapixels (no, not a Carl Zeis lens…) and it can capture video at 30 fps.

The X1 Xperia also includes a 3 inch wide touchscreen, A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and microSD — just 400MB on board, and a 4-way key and optical joystick.

The X1 Xperia will focus on multimedia and mobile web communications, packed with features including HSDPA/HSUPA, GPS and Wi-Fi.

Even though the display looks like the regular Windows Mobile Professional one, a button brings up a 9 panel window that act as application shortcuts.

Expect it around Dec. 08 or possibly Jan 09.

This is really cool - design your own cellphone. That’s right, not a cellphone skin, but designing the actual cell phone. Of course it helps if you know how to use CAD software.

Loads of praise for the new Blackberry Bold, which is due out in a couple weeks. And one of our favorites, the N series, has announced the new Nokia N85 slider loaded with features.

An interesting entry to the cell phone market is the HTC Diamond, or S740, it’s not to be confused with the touch Diamond. With its slideout keyboard it just needs a wifi hotspot ti take advantage of its HSDPA. It also offers what sounds like an interesting feature - a built-in RSS hub to alert you of the latest in news, entertainment and content as it appears.

And Google’s cell phone OS entry Android images were leaked this week. It runs on the HTC Dream phone and has a full QWERTY keyboard as well as a trackball and shortcut keys. Hope to see it by the end of the year.

Bic and Orange have teamed up in France to offer a ready to go cell phone. It comes with a battery that’s all charged up, 60 minutes of calling time, and a SIM card already in place. The phone number that comes with it lasts at least 12 months and you can refill the minutes with a pay as you go “mobicarte” refill card.

The BIC phone focuses on you basic cell phone features like sending and receiving calls and SMS. It’s suggested that the BIC phone will be sold in Metropolitan France only
