Ever thought about looking online for skins for laptops or another device? Here’s a couple tips to help get you started;
Visit a page like Google Images and look for the image you were thinking to use for a skin.
Change the results to show “Extra Large” and look for images 1,000 Kb (which is 1 MB) or larger. You can find so many images for skins this way.

Remember:
Larger devices like laptops, netbooks, xbox, playstation or Wii should use images 1 MB or larger in file size.
Devices closer to size of a cell phone, PSP, ipod, MP3 player, Nintendo DS Lite, or similar size can use images that are 500 Kb or larger.
Use images with less than recommend file size would probably produce skins that could be disappointing due to unclear or pixelated images.

If you’re not familiar with them, netbooks are smaller laptops which are less powerful but much more affordable. Usually about a 9 or 10 inch screen, they’re great for simple tasks like surfing the web, writing, or checking email. Some people find them ideal, but it really depends on your computing needs.
Applying any kind of netbook skins would follow the same application principles as for a laptop. If designing your own it should be 200 pixels per inch. The file size should be close to 1 MB for a sharper resolution. Netbook skins are the perfect companion to a mini notebook, giving it a unique look of its own.

Notebook skins are essentially vinyl adhesive stickers that can be used to protect your notebook computer. The notebook skins are great for hiding or protecting from scratches, and can be easily removed without having any sticky residue left afterwards.
Applying notebook skins only takes a minute and looks great. Wipe down the part of your notebook the skin will be places on with an alcohol swab to remove any oily prints or dirt you can’t see. Then align the skin, peel off half the backing, and stick. If it looks straight, remove the remainder and press on. Notebook skins can last for months and will keep your laptop looking like new.

Pink laptop skins are easy to create even if you are not familiar with using a graphics program like Photoshop. The first thing you do is create a new document (File > New) and enter your dimensions and resolution. Your height and width should be 200 pixels for each inch, so if you’re working on creating a 15 inch laptop skin the standard size is 15 x 11 inches. So you would make your new document 3000 pixels by 200 pixels. The standard size if making a 17 inch laptop skin is 17 inches by 12 inches, or 3400 pixels by 2400 pixels. A great tool to play with for a pink laptop skin is the gradient tool.

The great thing about creating skins for laptops or other devices likes ipods, cell phones, etc., is that it allows you to give your device a little personality. Your laptop, cell phone or other device is about as unique as the other million or so in production, but with a laptop skin, you can create that uniqueness.
I know a lot of people that aren’t fans of skins for laptops because they didn’t like the designs they’ve seen. But when I tell them they can design their own - well, that changes everything.
